Dvd Rip

It’s a literal larceny to rip dvd for the wrong uses. It’s the illegal dvd rip and dvd copy markets that are becoming the two major stumbling blocks in the dvd & entertainment business.

The term 'ripping' is technically used for the process of copying the audio or video data from one media form, such as Digital Versatile Disc (DVD) or Compact Disc (CD), to a hard disk. It’s extracting the original digital media, and converting or copying it to some other digital formats such as MP3, WMA or Ogg Vorbis for audio, or MPEG-2, MPEG-4, DivX or Ogg Theora for video.

Dvd ripping itself is the activity of converting dvd to VCD, DivX, MPEG, WMV, AVI, WMA, or ASF using dvd ripper, also known as dvd rip software. It is the act of decoding an original dvd using dvd rip software to then be burned to Dvd-r or similar format.

According to U.S. copyright law, the people and companies selling, and also using the dvd rip and the dvd ripping programs for illegal purposes still make up an alarming number of their viewing market.

Advocates for legitimate dvd ripping practices say that people have right to make personal backup copies of expensive dvds they buy, but The DVD Copy Control Association rebuffs their advocacy saying that dvd rippers and dvd copying software boost up the piracy of Hollywood movies.

The Motion Picture Association Of America (MPAA) have filed, and will continue to file numerous lawsuits against the people or firms selling illegally ripped & copied dvd movies & other media.
